Influence of Temperature on the Performance of the Diodes

Temperature has a great influence on the performance of the diode. When the temperature rises, the reverse current will increase exponentially. For example, when the temperature of silicon diode increases by 8 , the reverse current will increase by about twice; when the temperature of germanium diode increases by 12 , the reverse current will increase by about twice; in addition, when the temperature rises, the forward voltage drop of the diode will decrease, and when the temperature increases by 1 C, the forward voltage drop VF (Vd) will decrease by about 2 mV, that is, the negative temperature coefficient. These can be seen from the voltage-ampere characteristic curve of the diode shown in the figure.
