Diode forward
Feb 01, 2018

When the forward voltage is applied, the positive voltage is small enough to overcome the electric field blocking effect in the PN junction at the beginning of the forward characteristic. The forward current is almost zero, which is called the dead zone. The forward voltage that can not turn on the diode is called the dead-band voltage. When the forward voltage is greater than the dead-zone voltage, PN junction electric field is overcome, the diode conduction, the current increases rapidly with the voltage. In the normal use of the current range, the diode voltage is almost constant when the turn-on, the voltage is called the forward voltage of the diode.
